ROSE Homestay

...

Rural Opportunity for Social Elevation (R.O.S.E.) was born from a collaboration between the Kanda Rural/Eco/Community-based tourism at Village-Sunargaon and the Jeevan Paying Guest Unit (JPGU).
The latter has been offering service since 1988 and has hosted nine international visitor groups as of April 1999, when they officially registered with the Uttarakhand State Tourism Department
Paying Guest scheme (previously U.P.). This remote village in the Bageshwar district is within the mountainous Kumaoni hill range, some 86 kilometres away from Almora and standing 1400 to 1800
meters above sea level. About 20,000 people call this dispersed settlement cluster home while they make a living farming, forestry, horticulture, gardening tea leaves, crafting jewellery,
handicrafts - and more recently mining too.

ROSE provides a wonderful opportunity for self-motivated volunteers - you can experience true community life and engage with the local culture. Potential activities include:

- Living in a family home and immersing yourself in rural Indian culture;
- Guiding school children, learning about organic farming, biodiversity, and traditional forms of cottage industry (such as construction);
- Enjoying breathtaking views of the Himalayan foothills or go exploring in the nearby areas;
- Acquiring Hindi or Kumaoni language skills and sampling delicious Kumaoni cuisine;
- Building your confidence, and social awareness, and having lots of fun along the way.

Dining in ROSE Kanda, Bageshwar

At Rose Kanda Village Tour, we provide guests with hygienically-prepared vegetarian dishes of the region. Kumauni cuisine is generally similar to that of other Northern Indian provinces. If you
require non-vegetarian options for your visit, it's recommended to request them in advance.
